2008/4/13 Discovering BirkenheadMy GP and disability rotation sort of ended last week and so during my lunch time, I decided to explore around Birkenhead a little. Hamilton Square is so gorgeous especially now that it's spring. Anyway, I've been contemplating whether to enter the Wirral Museum or not. It didn't sound that interesting so I've just passed it by without bothering everytime I walked to my GP's surgery. Anyway, I decided to since it was my last day there and it turned out to be a pretty interesting lunch break!
The Wirral Museum is basically the centre of Birkenhead's rich heritage which goes back all the way to the days of swashbuckling ship capturing (think a milder version of Pirates of the Carribean). Actually ships for the American Civil War were build in Birkenhead. This was really surprising and they set sail from Liverpool's docks for action. The most famous of this was the CSS Alabama shown in the slideshow. It captured and plundered 65 ships under its mighty Captain Old Beeswax. I nearly keeled over laughing at the Captain's nickname ha ha ha. He looks abit Jack-Sparrowish though ;)
The other thing that caught my eye was also the stained glass ceiling in the ballroom which is a quote from Psalm 24:1,2 which says:
1 The The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, 2 for he founded it upon the seas It was tempting to lie down but I decided not to and I think it was wise. In the mayor's hall, there was also this interesting cupboard of Japanese pottery and the description that followed it said that during the victorian ages, all things Japanese were very fashionable. Maybe the first mayor's wife thought Japanese stuff were very kawaii :) So that wraps up my GP days at Birkenhead which also made me absolutely sure that I'm not cut out to be a GP. Sigh... Hamilton square is so gorgeous. I will be back someday! 引用通告此日志的引用通告 URL 是: http://cid-9c896b4f6cfe3238.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!9C896B4F6CFE3238!922.trak 引用此项的网络日志
